BOGOF's can Bog Off

An opinion

Working as a professional Hypnotherapist in Norfolk is a wonderfully rewarding career choice. One perhaps I didn’t fully appreciate when I first trained what now seems like an age ago. There can be no better satisfaction than seeing a client leaving the hypnotherapy room in Wymondham having experienced a significant change in thinking and behaviour patterns. Smiles instead of frowns and an upright posture rather than looking like they’re carrying the weight of the world on their shoulders.

I remember being told long ago in one of my very first sessions when training and indeed it is an obligation you make when joining a professional Hypnotherapy association such as the National Council of Hypnotherapy, to never lengthen the number of sessions you see a client for. This is important for many reasons including integrity, client trust and indeed the hypnotherapy profession as an entity.

So, it goes without saying that I get really annoyed, yes, a hypnotherapists blood does boil on occasions, when I see promotions from therapists for Hypnotherapy package deals. Unfortunately, many clients who have come to see me after having paid in advance and block booked a package deal or series of unsuccessful hypnotherapy sessions with another therapist. They’ve been told to “Buy our platinum package and receive 7 sessions for the price of 6” or “It just so happens we have a deal on our gold package today and you’re in the right place at the right time and qualify for it.”  (Steer clear of any therapist who tells you that you've qualified for something)

Most hypnotherapist will not offer packages for issues such as anxiety and there’s a reason for this. Often a client turns to hypnotherapy after having explored all options and often they’ve reached an all-time low and are feeling vulnerable. Many will clutch at anything to feel and behave differently to what they are. Which is why it’s important for them to understand that we’re all unique and because of this the practices and the associated time frames used within hypnotherapy should be adapted accordingly from person to person. There can never be a one size fits all approach.

I see many clients at my Hypnotherapy practice in Wymondham Norfolk for a wide variety of reasons including fears, phobias, anxiety, weight control, addictions and so on. Some respond immediately with far reaching, long lasting change, whilst with others the change is more subtle.
Take anxiety as an example. Many clients I see will need only a couple of sessions to get back on track and feel in control once more. For others a slower approach over a longer period of time is preferable and that’s perfectly OK. I’ve found clients tend to progress at a pace that is comfortable for them.

The number of hypnotherapy sessions required should always be discussed and reviewed not only at an initial consultation but also at the end of every session. It should be the client and Hypnotherapist who agree a plan of action rather than a package deal dictating how many hypnotherapy sessions will be required.

We’re all attracted to multi-deals and BOGOF’s (Buy One Get One Free) but before leaping in, and this applies to packets of biscuits or therapist deals, ask yourself a couple of questions.

  • Am I happy with what’s being offered?
  • Is the product being supplied from a reputable and trustworthy source?
  • Do I really need it?

If the answer to above is yes, great you’ve selected something you’re happy with and something that works for you. However, I would like to suggest, if you do come across package deals for hypnotherapy ask yourself the question “Is the hypnotherapist really interested in the health and welfare of me or are they more interested in the money they’ll earn?”
